GILERA MERCURIO 500 MOTOCARRO NOT SATURNO / GUZZI ERCOLE
CIRCA 1951/2 MERCURIO HYDRAULIC TIPPER PROJECT TO RESTORE.
THIS IS A VERY RARE GILERA MOTOCARRO FROM THE EARLY 1950S WHICH WAS RUNNING RECENTLY BUT REQUIRES TOTAL RESTORATION.
AS YOU CAN SEE IT HAS BEEN SUBJECT TO SOME MODIFICATION AND NOW HAS AN EXTRA FIAT 1100(?) GEARBOX AND HYDRAULIC PUMP OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN.
THE REAR AXLE MAY ALSO BE NON-ORIGINAL FIAT OR LANCIA BUT HAS THE CORRECT SIZE WHEELS AND IS A SIMILAR DESISGN.
THE REAR CHASSIS HAS BEEN CUT AROUND QUITE A LOT BUT THE ORIGINAL DESIGN WAS A SIMPLE TUBE STRUCTURE SO EASY TO REMAKE.
THE VEHICLE COMES WITH A FACTORY PARTS BOOKS WHICH SHOWS CHASSIS DESIGN AND REAR BOX DIMENSIONS.
SO APART FROM THE MODIFICATION THE MERCURIO IS ABOUT 90% COMPLETE AND WAS RUNNING A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. THE ENGINE(VERY SIMILAR TO A SATURNO) TURNS OVER WITH GOOD COMPRESSION AND THE GEARS ENGAGE. THE ORIGINAL HYDRAULIC PUMP IS ON THE GEAR BOX.
A BRACKET ON THE CHASSIS AND THE ORIGINAL HYDRAULIC PUMP INDICATES THIS MERCURIO WAS A HYDRAULIC TIPPING TYPE FROM NEW AND SO THE MOST EXPENSIVE TYPE. THE GILERA MOTOCARRO WAS PRODUCED IN SMALL NUMBERS AND MUCH RARER THAN THE GUZZI ERCOLE.
THERE ARE NO REGISTRATION DOCUMENTS BUT THERE ARE ORIGINAL CHASSIS AND ENGINE NUMBERS ON THE VEHICLE.
