The Irish National Rally & Our Holiday

Friday 20/08/2010 to Sunday 29/08/2010

Our three intrepid (or in Justin's case insipid) travellers at a lunch stop on their way to catch the overnight Swansea to cork ferry.

L to R. Justin, Andy & Jo.

We all stayed with our friends at their lovely Irish country house, & had a tea party! L to R. Top row. Paddy, Larry & Andy. Middle row. Renee, Rena, Jo & Mary. Bottom row (sitting) Nick Rosie & Melissa

Scenes from the country house.

We all visited Lisselan Estate

Lisselan Estate is home to the Ford Homestead, where Henry Ford's grandfather, John Ford, was a tenant farmer on some 30 acres of land. These two Ford cars are in garages at Lisselan.

These photographs where all taken on that most amazing Irish National Rally 2010.

At this point Jo had not yet mastered the art of sidecar disembarkation from a Steib Sports chair!

Just one of the many great views afforded us on our travels.

Out & about on the rally - running repairs as required - preaching as not required - entertainment - & smiling faces. A truly great atmosphere, & a wonderful time had by all.

As for the weather - it was said to be the best weather there had possibly ever been on an Irish Rally - Sun, Sun & Sun (well a very few spots of rain on the first day).

Of course breakdowns always happen to other people - NOT SO! Justin came to a halt on the second morning with a broken gear change pawl spring. Now were on earth is he going to get one of those AMC hairpin springs from? No problem as two friends Peter & John came to the rescue, Peter just happen to be carrying just the very same spring as a spare & John assisted with the mechanical work - well to be honest he just about did it all. No wonder Justin is smiling! Talk about Irish luck! A big thank you to Peter & John.

At the final dinner & presentation, Dave McMahon had tee shirts for the people making the presentations, to celebrate 100 years of Rudge no less.

Top left. What would going to Ireland be without Andy buying a bike on the way home, & persuading Dave to put it in his lorry for the return journey. Top right - Dave impresses a young fan, Kevin who is into scrambling. Bottom pictures. Andy on the ferry returning home.

A Bike for Slovenia

Monday 16/08/2010

The man from Slovenia has sent a truck for his BSA A10 ... Is it big enough??????????????????????????????

Seems to be! Spoilt for choice the driver & Nick decide to put the bike at the front - this allows sliding room!

Making sure the straps are big enough - we think that there was every chance of the BSA arriving safely!

Two bikes for Italy

Thursday 12th August 2010

Here at Andy Tiernan Classics we believe we have just turned the world of science upside down!

That old universal truth of "Two into One does not go" is false, & here is the evidence...

Two Italian gentlemen have just bought two motorcycles - Ariel KH twin 500cc & BSA C11 250cc - but no van & no trailer. As the team set to work to overcome this minor problem Lawrence is extremely confident of the outcome, afterall he has just rebuilt & installed an engine in his Honda C90 - & it works!!!

Well the wheels are out, what next we are wondering...

The boss has got it!

Are that's one in the car.

& now for number two.

Will it or won't it?

Well...

YES!!!

So you see folks

TWO INTO ONE WILL GO!

Sunday 18th July 2010 VMCC Founders Day.

Just one of the many visitors to Founders day - relaxing under a tree, wondering why some idiot is taking a picture. The man relaxing under the tree is probably wondering the same thing!

Never actually seen one of these before so thought a couple of pictures would be nice.

Here is something else rather usual - very unusual in fact. An incredibly rare Gnom cycle motor from 1920, & a four stroke to boot!

Well it turns out that very rare cycle motors come in twos (unlike buses that come in threes, so I'm led to believe). Here we have a Rosengart, also 1920, & if you look closely you will see that it has two driving wheels, one on each side that work on the metal wheel rim. Bottom left we have two cycle motor nuts Peter (left) & Bill (right).

One of Andy's purchases on the day, a rather nice Norton Model 19.

Sunday 11th July 2010 brought along the wonderful local event of the Ufford Bygones & Fun Day, held in the village of Ufford, near Woodbridge in Suffolk. This event raised money for the St. Elizabeth Hospice in Ipswich.

Plenty of things to do for all the family.

This wonderful exhibit of a County Show had been created by partners Chris & Jan with many of the model vehicles being built from kits which had been altered as needed to maintaim authenticity - a real labour of love.

Tractors in all shapes & sizes were on show including this locally built Ransomes crawler with some details of its restoration.

Even the filmstars were out , this safari vehicle starred in 'Out of Africa'.

Horse power & horse power!

All kinds of motorised machinery was on show.

And there was lots of the usual chuffing & puffing from the stationary engines.

Automobiles of all shapes, sizes & ages - some the veterans of many a classic vehicle event!

Country craft stalls to tempt you.

Last but not least - Left to Right.

Mel with his Fire Engine, The Zahara Belly Dancers & the local Chimney Sweep.
